Haiti in Transition: KPKE- Theme 2: Character Development

haitiintransition:

We are all builders of our own characters. We have different positions, different spheres and privileges, different work to do in the world, different temporal fabrics to raise; but we are all alike in this – all are architects of fate. “ – John forthergill Waterhouse Ware

Our second…

Haiti in Transition: Our first H.i.T

haitiintransition:

For the past few months, we have been working tirelessly to raise funds and solidify logistics for our first H.i.T: “Konbit pou Konbat échèk

Our goal is to set up a network of youth-led neighborhood councils throughout all 10 departments of Haiti, called “Quartier à Quartier” (in english: Neighborhood to Neighborhood)

Each “Quartier” will come up with a collective vision for their neighborhood or community, and work together to bring that vision to life!

Konbit pou konbat échèk” is a program to initiate each “Quartier” into the network; it will involve identifying 12 willing and motivated youth from each neighborhood, and engaging them in the following activities

  1. Their Vision: their vision for their future, their vision for their neighborhood, their vision for their country… using photography and film workshops to capture those different visions;

  2. Their Environment: understanding and preserving their environment; activities revolving around converting waste into art (one idea was to have them create chess sets out of recycled material/papier maché.. )

  3. Leadership, Strategic thinking and Accountibility:  being positive agents of change/positive trend setters in their communities, by enhancing their strategic thinking skills and accountability for ones actions through workshops revolving around learning about and playing the game of chess.

  4. Becoming a Neighborhood Council: learning to work together as a youth-led community council that will work together on the artistic transformation of their neighborhood…(deciding what they would like their neighborhood to be known for, what they envision in terms of neighborhood transformation, etc..) by teaching them how to work as a council..

We are ready to do this!! and so thankful to all our friends and outside supporters for sending positive vibes our way!

H.i.T it!!

My Pearl of the Antilles—AyitiCherie

Ever more cognizant is she of the blood that runs through her veins; blood marked by strength, resilience and beauty—the blood of her people, the people of Haiti. Though the world has turned away from the Pearl of the Antilles, we, the youth of Haiti will stand firm in our determination not to merely survive—but to thrive.

#Ayiti Cherie, nap kinbe!

Focusing your life solely on making a buck shows a certain poverty of ambition. It asks too little of yourself. Because it’s only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential.
